Die Dreharbeiten für "Über die Anden bis ans Ende der Welt", begleitete er mit einem literarischen, sehr persönlichen Tagebuch. Seit Anfang 2012 ist Thomas Aders ARD- Korrespondent für den arabischen Raum mit Sitz in Kairo.
